Programme Description

This is a 1230 hours competence based Programme. It emphasizes heavily on skill and application technique. Upon completion of this Diploma, students will have a good understanding of aesthetic, creative, and technical factors involved in the design and the development of animation work, the web, video & sound editing, multimedia applications and electronic presentations.

This course is proposed to divide into 3 stages, focusing on different aspects which incorporate classroom instructor, practical and submission of assignments in order to let the participants learn more effectively. You must achieve attendance percentage of 90% for fulltime students and 80% for part time students.

 

Programme Objective

This Diploma aims to produce graduates with a broad range of Interactive Media production skills, in addition to an in depth understanding of how multimedia and internet is revolutionizing the current industry. It is a programme that has a commercial bias and is relevant to the current job market.

 

 



Entry Requirements

GCE ‘O’, ITE Or Completion of High School (for International Students) or Mature Students
Candidates with ‘N’ Levels will be accessed on a case-by-case basis.

For International Students, your entry to the above mentioned program is also subjected to:
Approval by Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and any other relevant authority in the Republic of Singapore.


Application Procedure

Students need to submit the following documents to find the eligibility for the programme.

  • AEC Admissions Application Form
  • ICA’s Form 16 & New V36
  • Photocopy of applicant’s travel documents.
  • Photocopy of applicants original birth certificate or other documentary evidence of Birth with both parents’ name if there is no Birth Certificate. In cases where a Notarial Certificate is submitted, a photocopy of the official Birth Document or other documentary evidence must still be included.
  • Educational Certificates & Transcripts. In cases where a Notarial Certificate is submitted, a copy of the Education Certificate and result transcripts must still be included.
  • 2 Passport sized photos.
  • Documentary proof of financial ability. (for visa required countries)
  • Bank statement/fixed deposit accounts/savings accounts

Assessment

No Examination. Instead, DIM has Assignments handed over to students at the end of each and every module. These Assignments are corrected by the Lecturer and an internal verification is done by a second marker in the department itself.

Expected result for the assignments can be in 2 months time after the assignments are submitted.

Programme Outline

Internet: Intro to Technologies

Candidates will learn about Internet Tech, how to create basic web pages, technical aspects of the Internet, how it works, the languages used by the Internet, about the hardware and software used by the Internet and of current Internet Tech.

Information technology: Applications Software 1

Candidates will learn how to use Information Tech systems and applications independently to support a range of information processing activities in meeting complex information requirements while paying attention to security and the need of other users.

Information technology: Applications Software 2

This unit is designed to enable candidates to attain an advanced level of proficiency in Information Tech. Candidates will learn how to integrate complex information through sharing of information between applications and users and by use of advance features of software application packages.

Screen Based Graphics

Candidates will learn the various aspects of digital image production, its hardware and software, characteristics of various image formats, producing images and using images. It will develop the candidate’s ability to create and use the various graphics formats available for screen based images.

Human Computer Interface

Candidates will learn about the interaction between humans and computers and the skills required to design, prototype and evaluate effective human computer interfaces.

Desk Top Publishing

Candidates will learn how to work effectively in a desktop publishing environment (DTP) and also producing a high quality publication using DTP system, for a given specification and target audience and ready for submission to printers.

Multimedia Computing: Multimedia Technology

Candidates will learn how to use hardware, software and delivery media used in industry to produce interactive applications. Candidates will develop knowledge of hardware technology, software categories, proprietary software applications, standard file formats, technology of distribution media and the processes involved publishing to disk and web.

Multimedia Computing: Interface Design and Authoring

Candidates will learn how to analyze the requirements for a proposed multimedia application, designing the application, gathering and manipulating multimedia elements and assembling these elements to produce an interactive multimedia application.

Internet: Web Development

Candidates will learn up to an advance stage of Web design and authoring skills with factors affecting web development, use the features of a development language to produce WWW documents, publish, test and evaluate WWW documents.

Multimedia Computing: Animation 1

Candidates will learn how to produce multimedia-rich animation suitable for use in web pages and disk-based multimedia applications.

Multimedia Computing: Animation 2

Candidates will learn about the fundamentals of 3-D animation, use modeling techniques to simulate solid objects, apply animation to a 3-D model, create 3-D animation presentation and integrate it with an interactive application, test and publish a 3-D application to an appropriate delivery medium.

Multimedia Computing: Audio and Video 1

Candidates will be introduced to the principles and rules of video production and learn how to apply your story-telling skills to this medium. Candidates will also learn how to record, mix and edit basic dialogue, music and sound effects for various computing and media platforms.

Software Development: Introduction

Candidates will learn about the fundamental techniques used in the development of computer programs, the process of software development, use basic structure and features of a programming language and producing a computer program to meet a given specification.

Internet: Client Side Web Scripting

Candidates will learn about the practical understanding of client-side web scripting and become an expert in designing and implementing scripts within web documents or enhance the functionality of a web document.

Software Development: Program Planning

Candidates will learn about the design methodology that will assist them in the creation of software, apply the methodology to produce program designs and prepare a software test strategy prior to rolling out the software to productions use.

Professional and Legal Issues for Web and Multimedia developers

This unit will provide the candidates with a broad knowledge of legal aspects, standards and guidelines of professional development environment. This unit is primarily intended for candidates who intended to follow a career, or are following a career, as Web developers or Multimedia professionals who require an understanding of the professional responsibilities of such employment

Medical Check Up

Upon obtaining of approval of student pass you are advised to make a provision of $100 - $200 for medical checks and visa required by the immigration in Singapore. The usual cost of the medical check up will be at approximately S$60 - S$80.

Living Costs

Students staying in Singapore will incur expenses of approximately S$600 - S$800 a month including transportation, food and housing (room sharing costs). This will depend on the lifestyle of the student.
