Programme Description

This is a multi-disciplinary area which includes subjects such as organisational behaviour, electronic commerce and marketing channels. The programme is intensive and is designed to offer a general business education.


Programme Aims

  • provide students with high quality teaching and learning experiences that are relevant to business and management careers
  • develop subject specific knowledge and understanding appropriate to business and management careers, including organisational behaviour, electronic commerce and marketing channels
  • develop the capacity for critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis, through the application of knowledge to a wide range of situations
  • encourage creativity and develop appropriate research, communication and quantitative skills
  • prepare students for a career in business and management and progression to further study
  • develop ability to become autonomous learners and to reflect upon personal skill development, thus encouraging life-long learning

Entry Requirements

  • AEC Diploma in Business Studies or equivalent
  • English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
  • At least 18 years of age


Entry Requirements

A recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent;

or

A recognised diploma + 5 years of working experience.

and

English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.5.

Applicants may also be required to attend an interview.

Fresh graduates with relevant aspirations are strongly encouraged to apply.

Programme Outline

  • Accounting (20 credits)
    An understanding of business decisions from the accounting perspective is critical to the success of any business. This course introduces students to the accounting environment and to the common financial accounting reports and management accounting tools used for decision-making. Students will also learn how to prepare and analyse financial reports.
  • Electronic Commerce (20 credits)
    Electronic commerce has a huge impact upon the business environment and presents numerous opportunities and markets for those who have a good understanding of it. This course introduces students to the key business models, infrastructure, technology and tools in electronic commerce. Students will also learn about web management, e-marketing, payments systems, business-to-business and business-to-consumer strategies, electronic government, mobile commerce, intranet and related security, legal and ethical issues.
  • International Marketing (20 credits)
    While trading in international markets is critical for growth, it is also becoming increasingly competitive for businesses and countries. To stay ahead of the competition, marketers must, therefore, be able to understand the international marketing environment and adopt appropriate strategies. This course introduces students to the field of international marketing. It focuses on managing the different cultural, economic, social, political, legal and technological environments. Students will learn how to develop strategies for overseas markets. The course also covers elements of international trade.
  • Marketing Channels (20 credits)
    Place is one element in the marketing mix. Goods and services have to be distributed to the consumers in the most efficient and effective manner. This course covers the channel intermediaries like wholesalers and retailers. Students will learn about physical distribution, designing marketing channels and channel management.
  • Organisational Behaviour (20 credits)
    A key factor in the effectiveness of an organization is its people. An understanding of human behaviour at the personal, group and organization levels is critical to the development of high performing teams. This course offers an insight into the complex human behaviour within organisations. Students will learn about motivation, perception, emotional intelligence, group dynamics, conflict resolution, high performance teams and organizational culture.
  • Small & Medium Enterprise Development (20 credits)
    Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) perform a critical role in any economy. This course teaches students how to develop and implement business plans. Students will learn about the critical traits entrepreneurs need to be successful as well as the challenges of managing SMEs. The course also covers topics such as franchising, financing for SMEs, creativity and innovation.
