Programme Information

This course is designed as one year top-up awards for students with prior studies in hospitality management, for example a relevant HND or foundation degree.
There are three core units: strategic management; operations strategy; and a dissertation, a piece of independent research in a topic of your choice relevant to the hospitality industry.
You will also study two field units which are related to the specialism you have chosen- (BA (Hons) Hospitality Business Management: international services marketing and globalisation).


Progression Pathway


Students upon completion are eligible to progress to any masters
programmes offered in AEC College

Students must be at least 16 years old at the time of application. All applicants must sit for a free English proficiency test. The result will determine the level the applicant starts his or her course of study.

Award of Degree

The BA (Hons) Hospitality Business Management is fully awarded by Manchester Metropolitan University. Graduates will be conferred with the same degree as that conferred to on-campus students.

Year/Level 3 - Core Units

  • Dissertation
    The unit is a sustained an-depth independent study of the student’s choice, directly related to their programmes’ aims. It allows the student to consolidate their intellectual development and apply their knowledge and skills to enhance their personal, vocational, research and academic interests through both academic and professional reflective practice.
  • Globalisation
    This module is concerned with approaches to informed decision making in the context of the global hospitality industry.
  • Operations Strategy
    Builds upon competencies and understanding of tactical operations decision making developed earlier in the course covering topics such as decision theory and forecasting techniques.
  • Strategic Management
    To adopt a strategic perspective in considering the overall planning process as applied in the Hospitality industries.
  • International Services Marketing
    Hospitality and travel organizations are often strategically vertically integrated and operate in an increasingly global market. The unit has a strategic perspective and focuses on international services marketing.

Assessment

  • Modules are assessed though a combination of in course assessments and examinations

Admission requirements:

  • AEC Advanced Diploma (BTEC) in Hospitality Management
  • Other Diplomas from recognised polytechnics or institutions
  • Any other relevant qualifications assessed case by case basis.
  • Matured candidates with several years work experience in hotel industry will be considered.

  • Minimum 6.0 in IELTS / C6 in English at GCE ‘O’ level or AEC English Level 4
