Certificate in Infant / Toddler Care & Development

About the Program:

This course will equip those who wish to work with very young children between 2 months and 18 months with the knowledge and competencies for their effective care and management.

Course Objectives:

This program seeks to prepare students to:

• Apply their knowledge of child development theories and care principles in a variety of situations and circumstances
• Examine current child development knowledge and understand their interrelated developmental sequence in the various growth of infants and toddlers
• Practice the skills of observations to help ascertain a child’s educational needs and requirement
• Be able to work with families in a meaningful way in the care and education of their infants and toddlers

• Safety, Health and Nutrition
• Environmental Design for Supporting Infant/Toddler Development
• Working with Families
• Infant and Toddler Curriculum
• Practicum

Entry Requirements:

Possess at least one of the following qualifications:

• minimum 3 GCE ‘O’ level credits including English Language
• Basic/Fundamental Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education
• Early Childhood Teachers’ Bridging Program (ECTBP)
• State Registered Nurse (SRN)

Have a valid first aid certificate
Be at least 18 years of age

Program Duration:

160 hours – 100 hours classroom and 60 hours attachment Approx. 4 months with 3 sessions a week
Contact hours are dependant on the modules. However students are required to attend at least 80% of lessons in class.

Mode of Assessment:

Assessment by individual assignment, group project, class presentation and test
