Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'O' Level

The ‘O’ Level examinations is a pre-requisite for admission into any one of Singapore’s five Polytechnics namely Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Temasek Polytechnic and Nanyang Polytechnic.
The GCE O levels certificate also is a basic qualification for entry into Foundation programmes, and first year studies at university degrees with a skill orientation. Most importantly it forms the entry qualification into ‘A’ levels with is the pathway to reputable universities’ undergraduate programs.


Course Delivery

Conducted by full-time, approved teachers, students will benefit from the up-to-date textbooks and learning materials based on a well-crafted curriculum that is defined by the syllabus issued by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board. The learning experience of students is enhanced by lectures, tutorial assignments, project work and examinations.

FAQ: GCE O LEVELS

What kind of program is this?

This the program that will allow you to enter into Government POLYTECHNICs and GCE Advanced LEVEL studies

Is the O Levels, a government program itself?

Yes, the examination is run by the Government of Singapore and the students study in various schools. At the end of the year in Oct and November, students sit for nationwide exams held at various centres.

At what age do students do these exams?

The students start studying for this exam when they are 15 years old. When they are 16 years old they sit for the exams. Some students study within one year.

It is like the 10th year in the high school program in a different country. After the 10th year they can go for their Diploma in a Polytechnic or study their A levels for 2 years and then go to the University.

Do many young students take this program?

Yes, it is a very popular program amongst young students who want to live in Singapore. The subjects range from Math, English, Science, Accounting, Physics, Chemistry, and Malay, Chinese, Tamil, French or any native Language

What do students hope to achieve and why is it so popular?

Most students want to go to the polytechnic for further studies. After their O level studies they have several choices - join a POLY, study A levels, take up a Diploma in a private institution. Many take the POLY route. If they are able to score high marks they get government subsidy for studies for 3 years.

How does the student join this course?

Once the student is 15 years old as at 1st Jan of a year the student can commence studies and register for the exams in February of the same year.

How much does it cost to study this course?

It costs $6500 for five subjects per year. Any additional subject will cost $1000 each per year. Please check with the fee sheet for the latest fee.

 What is the schedule of the course ?

The full schedule will be from 8.30 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday.

What is the course duration ?

The course will take 10 months to complete, from January to October.

What is the teachers qualifications ?

The teachers has been teaching for 15 ¨C 20 years and they have a great knowledge of GCE O Level Syllabus.
