NEW COURSE FEES!

The tuition fees for the Foundation Diploma in English programme has been revised to $2500 for a 20-week course. The new rate applies to all applications received after April 2008.

About the Program

This full-time program offers comprehensive preparation for entry to an AEC Foundation or Diploma program. The program is also appropriate for learners seeking to enter an English-speaking university, school or college, as well as preparation for people who may need to provide a TOEFL or an IELTS score for the purposes of immigration to an English-speaking country.

The course materials used in this program adopt a systematic approach to preparing students for AEC Certificate and Diploma programs, AEC/James Watt College Diploma/Advanced Diploma programs, ACCA, Foundation level programs or TOEFL / IELTS Tests. Extensive practice material, supplementary activities, listening tests, etc are regular features of the program.

Upon completion of this program, students should be able to integrate into study in the medium of English at Undergraduate/Professional level.

Course Structure

The Foundation Diploma in English as a Foreign Language is a 12-mth programme consisting of 4 levels. Each level can be completed in 10 weeks. Intake is on a rolling basis. The number of contact hours per week is approximately 15 hours, and will vary according to variable-date public holidays. Student have to attend lectures, tutorials and self-study sessions daily.

The total learning activity includes individual personal study, the completion of course work and preparation of final assessment and will exceed 35 hours per week.

Admission Requirements

Students must be at least 16 years old to enter the program.

Duration

The program is of a years duration but you may be able to complete the program in a shorter time provided your English proficiency is of an appropriate level to progress to your chosen subject area (Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma/ACCA/IFY).

Assessment

During each semester, assessments will be in the following format:

Written examination (60-80%) to assess reading comprehension and writing skills
Aural examination (20%) to assess listening comprehension;
and depending on level, an Oral examination (20%) to assess speaking skills.
The exact balance of this weighting will depend on the students proficiency level.

Medical Check: Upon obtaining of approval of student pass, you are advised to make a provision of $100 - $200 for medical checks and visa required by the immigration authority in Singapore. The usual cost of the medical check up will be approximately S$60 - S$80.

Living Costs: Students staying in Singapore will incur expenses of approximately S$600 - S$800 a month including transportation, food and housing (room sharing costs). This is an estimate and will depend on the lifestyle of the student.

  • Registration and sponsorship fees are one-off fees. Registration Fee is non-refundable.
  • The sponsorship fee is refundable subject to terms and conditions and is not applicable for local students.
  • From 1 December 2004, International students will enter a standard contract with AEC Business School. Students may request a copy of the Student Contract for inspection.
