Programme Description
The programme aims to train, coach and impart skills to students to perform roles in the Hospitality Industry. Careers in Hospitality revolve greatly on fulfilling and even exceeding guest requirements and expectations. It is challenging, rewarding and at times even glamorous as you get to meet important and celebrity guests. It is also down-to-earth as you meet all kinds of guests and get involved in upfront service.

Module 1 : Front Office Operations
1.Front Desk Operations – Introduction
This subject gives an introduction to the organisation structure in a hotel, reservations systems, and the various types of documentation used in the ‘back area’ of the front office. Students will also learn terms used in describing different types of rooms, hotel plans and room rates. The functions of the telephone department are also discussed in this subject.
2. Communication Skills
Students will gain greater awareness of the communication process, and hopefully become better communicators at the end of the subject. Aspects of communication such as barriers to communication, listening skills, business document writing, giving feedback and handling conflicts will be covered in this subject. Students will also learn about presentation and interview skills.
Module 2 : Registration
3.Property Management System
This subject provides an introduction to the components of the computer, computer operating systems (Windows/DOS), and the functions of property management systems. Students will learn various Microsoft Office applications such as Words, Excel and Powerpoint. Another important component in this subject is the MicrosFidelio Front Office Module.
4.Front Desk Operations – Processes
This subject focuses on the registration process at the Front Office such as key control and room/rate change, and other aspects of Front Office management. Supervisory skills will also be taught in helping students in the future role of managing and working with people at the workplace. Students will undergo role-playing simulations in the school’s mock-up facility.
Module 3 : Housekeeping
5.Housekeeping Operations
This subject details the job knowledge and skills required in the Housekeeping department. Among the topics covered in this subject include materials and fabrics used in hotel operation, cleaning agents and equipment, housekeeping procedures for room and public areas, and occupational safety. Students will gain some practical room-cleaning experience in the school’s mock-up facility.
Module 4 : Cashiering
6.Front Office Operations - Finance & Control
One of the essential responsibilities of a Front Office Agent is cashiering. Students will learn about the various procedures to handle payments, and understand the importance of credit control in the front office department. Security aspects such as fraud detection will also be discussed.
Module 5 : Guest Services
7.Front Desk Operations - Other Services
The focus of this subject is the ‘peripheral services’ in the front office area such as concierge and bell service. Students are expected to know extensive knowledge of Singapore’s tourism products and better relate them to guests. Students will undergo role-playing simulations in the school’s mock-up facility.
8.Hotel Sales and Marketing
In this subject, students will learn about the roles of sales and marketing department. Fundamental marketing concepts such as marketing mix, pricing strategies and promotion will be introduced. The importance of public relations will also be taught in this subject.
:9.Introduction to Tourism and Hospitality
This subject provides students with the fundamental knowledge of the major components in the hospitality and tourism industry. A brief description of the evolution of tourism, and various components of the tourism industry will be discussed. Another focus is on the economic, cultural and social effects that are a result of tourism development.
Module 6 : Service Quality
10.Principles of Quality Service :
This subject examines the components of service and their relationship to the hospitality industry. Some of the aspects discussed include concepts of ‘service triangle’ and ‘service chain’, ethical responsibilities of staff and guests, and the importance of the relationship between staff, management and guests.
11.Basic Economics
This subject aims to create awareness and understanding of the economic environment within which all organisations operate and to familiarise students with basic economic terminologies.
12.Hotel Law and Security
Two aspects will be taught in this subject – the legal system affecting the hospitality industry and security issues in hotels. Students will be given an introduction of legal system in Singapore as well as the various regulations affecting hotel operations in Singapore. Students are expected to comprehend security concerns pertinent to a hotel operation.

Assessment
A variety of assessment methods are used including assignments and examinations. The assessment of each subject will be based on 60% for final exam and 40% for presentations and projects

Entry Requirement
GCE ‘O’, ‘N’ Levels or Completed year 10 of high school for international students.
Matured students above 21 yrs of age
IELTS 4.5/TOEFL of 500 or equivalent English competency test.

Medical Check Up
Upon obtaining of approval of student pass you are advised to make a provision of $100 - $200 for medical checks and visa required by the immigration in Singapore. The usual cost of the medical check up will be at approximately S$60 - S$80.
Living Costs
Students staying in Singapore will incur expenses of approximately S$600 - S$800 a month including transportation, food and housing (room sharing costs). This will depend on the lifestyle of the student.
Application Procedure
Students need to submit the following documents to find the eligibility for the programme.
- AEC Admissions Application Form
- ICA’s Form 16 & New V36
- Photocopy of applicant’s travel documents.
- Photocopy of applicants original birth certificate or other documentary evidence of Birth with both parents’ name if there is no Birth Certificate. In cases where a Notarial Certificate is submitted, a photocopy of the official Birth Document or other documentary evidence must still be included.
- Educational Certificates & Transcripts. In cases where a Notarial Certificate is submitted, a copy of the Education Certificate and result transcripts must still be included.
- 2 Passport sized photos.
- Documentary proof of financial ability. (for visa required countries)
- Bank statement/fixed deposit accounts/savings accounts
