BA (Hons) in Business Studies

The University of Wales, Newport BA (Hons) in Business Studies Final Year is a one year part-time programme.

There is a continuing demand in the national and international labour market for graduates in business. Throughout the course a variety of teaching and learning methods are used to simulate real life business experiences, for example you will develop and present a business idea in the business planning module. The programme develops problem solving, negotiation and presentation skills and includes the study of management and business theory.

Intakes

  • The programme will be available from September 2008
  • 4 intakes per year - September, December, March and June

Class Duration

  • Classes are conducted 2 evenings per week and Saturday mornings
  • Approximately 9 contact hours per week

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used including assignments and examinations.

Fee Schedule

The total programme fee covers registration, textbooks, lectures and workshops, assignments, examinations (if applicable), projects, degree (if earned) and transcript.

Fees are subjected to prevailing GST and payable as follows:

Entry Requirement

This final year BA programme accepts a wide range of qualifications for entry. These include:

  • Polytechnic diploma or equivalent in business or related disciplines;
  • Successful completion of the AEC Advanced Diploma in Business or equivalent.

As the full BA programme consists of 18 modules, credit or advanced standing for the 6 modules not offered through AEC will be individually assessed by the Academic director upon receipt of the students' transcript.

Applicants above may be admitted to the BA programme but be required to undertake additional courses in order to achieve full advanced standing. The final decision rests with the University.

Students who do not have sufficient courses or course content to gain credit for the 6 modules in their previous studies may be asked to study additional modules through studying concurrently in AEC bridging programmes and Advanced Diplomas.

Applicants should either posses a diploma from a recognised institution where English is the sole medium of instruction and where that qualification has been obtained within the past two years OR the following IELTS or TOEFL scores: 1. IELTS of 6.0 (minimum) and a minimum score of 6.0 on Reading or Writing or 2. TOEFL of 550 or 21 on the computer based test (minimum) and a minimum score of 550 (or 21 in the computer based test) on the Reading and Writing sub-scores or equivalent.

The application form needs to be completed by the applicant listing their qualifications, employment experience, major work achievements and English proficiency. Proof of the applicantfs qualifications (a certified copy of the official transcript is acceptable) and the first payment must also be included.
