Programme Description

The University of Wales, Newport BA (Hons) in Business Studies Final Year is a one year part-time programme.

There is a continuing demand in the national and international labour market for graduates in business. Throughout the course a variety of teaching and learning methods are used to simulate real life business experiences, for example you will develop and present a business idea in the business planning module. The programme develops problem solving, negotiation and presentation skills and includes the study of management and business theory.

Programme Aims

  • To enable the advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate.
  • Prepare individuals for and/or development of a career in business and management by developing skills at a professional or equivalent level, or as preparation for research or further study in the area.
  • Development of the ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice.
  • Enhancement of lifelong learning skills and personal development so as to be able to work with self-direction and originality and to contribute to business and society at large.

This final year BA programme accepts a wide range of qualifications for entry. These include:

  • Polytechnic diploma or equivalent in business or related disciplines;
  • Successful completion of the AEC Advanced Diploma in Business or equivalent.

As the full BA programme consists of 18 modules, credit or advanced standing for the 6 modules not offered through AEC will be individually assessed by the Academic director upon receipt of the students' transcript.

Applicants above may be admitted to the BA programme but be required to undertake additional courses in order to achieve full advanced standing. The final decision rests with the University.

Students who do not have sufficient courses or course content to gain credit for the 6 modules in their previous studies may be asked to study additional modules through studying concurrently in AEC bridging programmes and Advanced Diplomas.

Applicants should either posses a diploma from a recognised institution where English is the sole medium of instruction and where that qualification has been obtained within the past two years OR the following IELTS or TOEFL scores: 1. IELTS of 6.0 (minimum) and a minimum score of 6.0 on Reading or Writing or 2. TOEFL of 550 or 21 on the computer based test (minimum) and a minimum score of 550 (or 21 in the computer based test) on the Reading and Writing sub-scores or equivalent.

The application form needs to be completed by the applicant listing their qualifications, employment experience, major work achievements and English proficiency. Proof of the applicant's qualifications (a certified copy of the official transcript is acceptable) and the first payment must also be included.
